Interstate trips and hourly charters: pricing, stops and waiting
Updated
On long-distance and interstate trips, three questions come up more than any others: how it is priced, whether you can stop along the way, and whether the driver waits.
All three depend on which of the two arrangements you pick — point to point, or by the hour. Choose correctly and the rest follows.
Two arrangements: point to point, or by the hour
Point to point suits a defined origin and destination with no stops or only one or two — New York to Boston, to Washington, to Philadelphia. It is priced on the actual route, instantly.
An hourly charter suits several stops, waiting in place, or a day whose plan is not fully settled. The driver stays with you throughout, at your pace.
The test is simple: if you need the car to wait for you, book a charter. If you need to get from A to B, book point to point.
How interstate pricing works
Enter both addresses on the booking page for an instant quote. The total shown is the final amount payable and already includes every applicable tax.
Tolls, bridges and tunnels are all inside the price and never added separately. That holds for New York into New Jersey or Connecticut, where a crossing is unavoidable — nothing is added on arrival.
Traffic does not change a quote. Two hours on a bridge costs exactly what the quote said.
Can we stop along the way?
A point-to-point trip can take a small number of stops. Note where and roughly how long in the booking, and we build them into the trip.
If stops are likely to be decided on the day, or any of them are long, an hourly charter fits better — nothing needs recalculating each time, and the car is simply there.
How waiting is handled
On an hourly charter, waiting is part of the time you have booked and costs nothing extra.
On a point-to-point trip the free allowance is 15 minutes from the driver's arrival; beyond that it is $1 per minute, collected in person by the driver and never added to the online bill.
So when a trip has substantial waiting built into it — viewings, a meeting, an appointment — a charter is both cheaper and simpler from the outset.
Meetings, conferences and corporate travel
Client pickups, executive travel, meetings and conference transport can all run either point to point or by the hour.
Business customers can use a corporate account: consolidated invoicing, monthly billing, contract rates and a dedicated contact. For recurring travel, an account is far less work than booking each trip separately.
A receipt is emailed automatically to the booking address once payment succeeds.
Severe weather
For snowstorms, hurricanes, flooding, road closures, airport shutdowns and similar events outside anyone's control: if we judge the trip cannot be run safely and cancel it ourselves, you receive a full refund with no fee, or a free reschedule.
If the trip can still be run safely and you choose to cancel, the standard rules apply — full refund more than 48 hours ahead, non-refundable under 48 hours.
Delays, detours or extra tolls caused by such events never result in a price increase on a booking already paid.
On a long trip with weather in the forecast, it is worth confirming with us the day before.
Questions about this guide
How is a long-distance or interstate trip priced, and can we stop en route?
Enter both addresses for an instant quote; tolls and crossings are already included and the final amount is shown before you pay. A point-to-point trip can take a small number of stops — note where and how long in the booking. For several stops or long waits, an hourly charter fits better.
Should I book point to point or by the hour?
Book a charter when you need the car to wait for you — the driver stays with you at your pace. Book point to point when you simply need to get from A to B. If stops are many, or the day's plan is still forming, a charter is less work.
Do I pay the driver for tolls separately?
No. They are all inside the quoted price, and the total shown online is the final amount payable. No driver will ask you for toll money. For long-distance trips, the quote also covers the tolls on the driver's empty return.
Does traffic change the price?
No. A quote does not move with road conditions, and that is set out in our cancellation and refund policy.
How is waiting at the destination charged?
On an hourly charter, waiting is part of the booked time at no extra cost. On a point-to-point trip, 15 minutes are free from the driver's arrival, after which it is $1 per minute, collected in person by the driver.
What happens in a snowstorm or other severe weather?
If we judge the trip cannot be run safely and cancel it, you get a full refund with no fee, or a free reschedule. If the trip can run safely and you cancel, the standard rules apply. Delays or extra tolls from such events never raise the price of a booking already paid.
