Where to meet your driver at JFK: pickup points for Terminals 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8

Updated

JFK's five terminals sit far apart, and since 2025 Terminals 5 and 7 send car-service pickups to the AirTrain Howard Beach lot — memory from an earlier trip will send you the wrong way.

This guide covers each terminal separately. The pattern is the same as at every New York airport: reach the pickup area first, then contact your driver.

What to do after landing (all five terminals)

Collect your bags, clear the terminal, then follow the airport's 'Ride App Pick Up' or 'Car Services' signs to the pickup area and wait at the numbered spot on your booking or the one your driver gives you.

Once you are there, contact your driver and say which numbered spot you are at. The car is usually with you in about ten minutes.

JFK is under construction throughout 2026 (the JFK Redevelopment), so walking routes inside the airport and traffic on the roadways can both be slower than usual. Your driver stays in contact throughout. Source: jfkairport.com.

Terminal 1

The Terminal 1 pickup is normally on the pickup lane in front of the terminal; during JFK's construction the exact spot can shift by time of day, so follow signage and your driver's instructions.

After baggage claim, follow the signs out of arrivals to the pickup lane, wait at the spot your driver gives you, and contact the driver. The car arrives in about ten minutes.

Terminal 1 handles mostly international flights. Immigration queues count inside the 90 minutes of free waiting, so a slow line is not a problem.

Terminal 4

The Terminal 4 pickup is normally on the pickup lane in front of the terminal; during JFK's construction the exact spot can shift by time of day, so follow signage and your driver's instructions.

Terminal 4 is JFK's largest international arrivals terminal and the arrivals hall is crowded after customs. Walk to the pickup area first, then contact your driver — do not look for the car inside the hall.

Students and visiting families most often arrive through Terminal 4. With a cart of bags, following the 'Ride App Pick Up' signs is faster than asking your way through the crowd.

Terminal 8

The Terminal 8 pickup is normally on the pickup lane in front of the terminal; during JFK's construction the exact spot can shift by time of day, so follow signage and your driver's instructions.

After baggage claim, follow the signs out of arrivals to the pickup lane, wait at the spot your driver gives you, and contact the driver. The car arrives in about ten minutes.

Terminal 5

After baggage claim at Terminal 5, follow the AirTrain signs, board toward Howard Beach and get off at Howard Beach station (free within the airport, every 5–15 minutes). Follow the 'Ride App and Car Services pickup' signs to the lot, wait at the spot your driver gives you, contact the driver, and the car arrives in about ten minutes. Airport staff and baggage handlers are on site. Passengers needing an accessible vehicle are still collected in front of the terminal — note it when booking.

This is the airport's rule, in force since 2 May 2025 (source: jfkairport.com), not our arrangement. The 90 minutes of free waiting still runs from actual landing, and the AirTrain ride fits comfortably inside it.

After baggage claim at Terminal 7, follow the AirTrain signs, board toward Howard Beach and get off at Howard Beach station (free within the airport, every 5–15 minutes). Follow the 'Ride App and Car Services pickup' signs to the lot, wait at the spot your driver gives you, contact the driver, and the car arrives in about ten minutes. How to find and contact your driver

Once you are at the pickup area, contact your driver using the details on your booking and say which numbered spot you are at. The driver will tell you the vehicle type, colour and the last digits of the plate.

Check the plate before you get in. The driver loads the bags.

You can contact the driver in Chinese. Chinese-speaking chauffeurs are available but not guaranteed on every booking, which is why the trip details are written into the booking in advance rather than left to a conversation at the kerb.

Flight delays, free waiting and overtime

We wait. With a flight number on the booking, the driver is scheduled against the actual landing time — no rebooking, no change fee.

Airport pickups include 90 minutes of free waiting, counted from the moment the aircraft lands, not from the time you originally booked. Immigration queues, baggage reclaim and customs all happen inside that window.

Beyond the free allowance it is $1 per minute, collected in person by the driver and never added to the online bill.

This depends on us being able to reach you. If the free waiting runs out and there is still no contact, the driver may leave and the trip counts as a no-show.
