Where to find your car after landing at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark

Updated

The most disorienting ten minutes of any trip are the ones just after you clear arrivals and realise you are not sure where to go — especially with elderly parents, children and a cart of bags.

All three New York airports follow the same pickup pattern. Knowing it in advance takes the guesswork out.

What to do after you land

Collect your bags, clear the terminal, then follow the airport signs to the pickup area and wait at the numbered spot given on your booking.

Once you are there, contact your driver to say so. The car is usually with you in about ten minutes.

Allow a little longer when several flights land together or the airport has traffic control in force. Your driver stays in contact throughout, so you are never left guessing.

Why the car is not waiting at the kerb

Large airports do not allow vehicles to stand at arrivals; cars that linger are moved on or fined. So the car waits in a nearby holding area and comes round once you reach the pickup point.

That arrangement works in your favour: whether you come out early or late, the car is close by rather than having been moved along, so you never walk out to nothing.

The order matters — walk to the pickup point first, then call the driver, rather than scanning the arrivals hall for a car.

What happens if the flight is delayed

We wait. With a flight number on the booking, the driver is scheduled against the actual landing time — no rebooking, no change fee.

Airport pickups include 90 minutes of free waiting, counted from the moment the aircraft lands, not from the time you originally booked. Immigration queues, baggage reclaim and customs all happen inside that window.

Beyond the free allowance it is $1 per minute, collected in person by the driver and never added to the online bill.

This depends on us being able to reach you. If the free waiting runs out and there is still no contact, the driver may leave and the trip counts as a no-show.

How departures and city pickups differ

Drop-offs, city pickups and all other trips include 15 minutes of free waiting, counted from the driver's arrival.

The difference is deliberate. On an arrival we are waiting on immigration and baggage, which nobody controls. On a city pickup the time is the one you chose, so the car arriving is the cue to come down.

Help with the luggage

Your driver loads the bags, unloads them at the other end, and holds the door for older passengers.

Enter the real passenger and bag counts when booking and the system picks the smallest vehicle that genuinely fits. If one car will not do, it upgrades the class or adds a second, priced before you pay.

For skis, golf bags or instruments, note the dimensions in the booking so we can size the vehicle to the actual load rather than discovering the problem at the kerb.

Worth knowing at each airport

JFK spreads across several terminals, and immigration can be slow when long-haul arrivals bunch together. The 90 minutes runs from landing, which normally covers it. Each terminal's pickup point is covered in the JFK guide.

LaGuardia has been rebuilt in stages and its pickup points have moved more than once. Follow the spot on your booking rather than a previous visit's memory. Each terminal's pickup point is covered in the LaGuardia guide.

Newark sits on the New Jersey side, so reaching Manhattan means a tunnel or a bridge — the slowest few miles at peak hours. Those tolls are already inside your quoted price. Each terminal's pickup point is covered in the Newark guide.

Questions about this guide

Where does the driver meet me, and how do I find them?

Once you have your bags and are through, go to the airport pickup area and wait at the numbered spot shown on your booking. Tell your driver you are there and the car is usually with you in about 10 minutes. Allow longer when arrivals bunch up or the airport has traffic control in force; your driver stays in contact.

Why isn't the car waiting at arrivals?

Large airports do not permit vehicles to stand at the kerb, so the car waits nearby and comes round once you reach the pickup point. That way it is still close by whether you come out early or late, rather than having been moved on.

What if my flight is delayed — will I be charged or left behind?

Neither. With a flight number on the booking we schedule against your actual landing time, with no rebooking and no change fee. Airport pickups include 90 minutes of free waiting from the moment you land.

How long is the free waiting, and what happens after?

Airport pickups: 90 minutes from actual landing. Drop-offs, city pickups and everything else: 15 minutes from the driver's arrival. Beyond that it is $1 per minute, collected in person by the driver and never added to the online bill.

Will someone help with the bags?

Yes. Your driver loads and unloads the luggage and holds the door for older passengers. Enter the real bag count when booking so the vehicle is sized to fit.

I land in the middle of the night — is that a problem?

No, there is no cut-off. Overnight arrivals are scheduled against the actual landing time like any other, with the same free waiting.

Is there Wi-Fi, charging and water in the car?

Yes — Wi-Fi, bottled water, tissues and charging are provided at no extra charge. They matter most on long runs and when travelling with children.
